About Grant Reed, MD

Grant Reed, MD, MSc, FACC, FSCAI is an interventional cardiologist in the Invasive & Interventional Cardiology Section of the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute.

He is the Program Director for the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship.  He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and interventional cardiology. He also attends in the cardiac intensive care unit.

Specialty Interests: Coronary artery disease, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), interventions for structural heart defects - including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure, atrial septal defect (ASD) closure, mitral valve therapies, left atrial appendage closure, paravalvular leak closure, peripheral artery disease, clinical research and device trials

Education: Dr. Reed received his medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine, Toledo, Ohio, graduating first in his class. He served his residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, and Harvard Medical School followed by fellowships in cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology at Cleveland Clinic. While a fellow, he earned a Masters of Science in Clinical Research from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, in 2017. He joined the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 2018 following completion of his interventional cardiology fellowship.

Experience and Outcomes: Cleveland Clinic interventional cardiologists perform thousands of procedures a year to treat patients with simple and complex heart and valve disease and structural abnormalities of the heart. The rates of major vascular complications and stroke associated with interventional cardiology procedures at Cleveland Clinic are better than the rates at comparable hospitals, and in-hospital mortality for these procedures is lower than expected. Dr. Reed has participated in more than 5,000 coronary angiograms, percutaneous coronary interventions, structural heart interventions and peripheral vascular interventions over the course of his career.

Publications and Speaking: Dr. Reed has authored or coauthored more than 150 papers published in peer-reviewed medical journals including Lancet, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, and Circulation, as well as numerous abstracts and cardiology texts. He frequently speaks at national and international conferences, including at the annual scientific sessions of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the Society of Coronary Angioplasty and Interventions, and the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Cardiology.

About Dr. Reed: “I enjoy caring for patients with all types of cardiac issues, especially complex coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease, and offering innovative therapies.  It is a privilege to take care of patients in the acute setting when they need it most, but also make long-lasting relationships.  I feel strongly that every patient should be treated as family, and I strive to provide cutting-edge cardiovascular care for every patient.”

Leisure Activities: In his leisure time, Dr. Reed enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, exercising and reading.
